1984 – Projet d’édition

Mon année de Bachelor à Visart fut l’occasion pour moi de découvrir et explorer plusieurs domaines dont notamment celui de l’édition, cher à mon coeur. Ce projet, étalé sur plusieurs semaines, consistait à réaliser plusieurs supports de communication axés autour d’une pièce de théâtre fictive, adaptée du Roman de Georges Orwell 1984.

J’ai donc pris le parti de tracer un parallèle entre la société autoritaire et dictatoriale dépeinte par Orwell et la nôtre, animée par les nouvelles technologies et dans laquelle chaque smartphone se veut être un petit télécran portatif.

En découle donc une série d’illustrations représentant la masse populaire endormie, complètement hébétée, le regard vissé sur des milliers d’écrans tandis que Winston, lentement, s’éveille.

Mais sa prise de conscience ne passe pas inaperçue et Big Brother, grande silhouette obscure, observe et confère à la scène un sentiment de mal-être représentant l’ambiance latente du roman.

Dans le cadre de cet exercice, nous étions tenus de produire trois affiches (la principale, et deux variantes) ainsi qu’une carte au format A5 et un dépliant.

My Bachelor year at Visart school was an opportunity for me to discover and explore several fields, especially publishing, close to my heart. This project, spread over several weeks, consisted in producing several communication supports centred around a fictional play, adapted from Georges Orwell’s novel 1984.

So I decided to draw a parallel between the authoritarian and dictatorial society depicted by Orwell and ours, driven by new technologies and in which each smartphone wants to be a small portable telecom.

The result is a series of illustrations depicting the sleeping popular mass, completely dazed, the gaze screwed onto thousands of screens while Winston slowly awakens.

But his awareness does not go unnoticed and Big Brother, tall dark silhouette, observes and gives the scene a feeling of unease representing the latent atmosphere of the novel.

As part of this exercise, we were required to produce three posters (the main one, and two variants) as well as an A5 map and pamphlet.
